Our place-Tychero

Our town, Tychero-General information

Tychero is a small town in the Evros Regional Unit, in Thrace, Greece.It is situated near the River Evros, which is the natural boundary with Turkey.The population of our small town is just over 2,000 people. Most of them are farmers mainly producing cotton, sugar beet and asparagus. Its melons in particular are famous all over Greece. Cattle and sheep are also raised. A number of people work in a timber factory in a nearby village.

Access to Tychero

Being some 50 kms from Alexadroupolis, the capital of Evros, Tychero is within easy reach. There is regular bus service to and from Alexandroupolis. There are also daily scheduled flights from Athens to Democritus International Airport of Alexadroupolis.

Eco ?Tourism Centre

The Eco-Tourism Centre, right next to the village, is a popular tourist destination. Its ?gem? is a beautiful artificial lake, home to many species of water birds. A traditional guesthouse overlooking the lake offers idyllic views, relaxing moments on the lake shore and mouthwatering homemade delicacies. A number of sport facilities are also available. Whatever you choose, from horse riding to cycling, you are bound to have a great time. Activities available:

Nearby Wildlife Sanctuaries

Evros Delta

Protected by the RAMSAR Convention, the Evros Delta is internationally acknowledged as a unique ecosystem. Its wetlands, saltmarshes, lagoons and canals are a safe home to mumerous species of mammals, migratory birds, waterbirds and reptiles. As many as 300 plant species make up its flora.

Dadia National Park

Located some 20kms to the north, the Dadia National Park is renowned for its rich and diverse wildlife and beautiful landscape. It is a unique habitat to many a species of flora and fauna. It is the last refuge of endangered birds in Europe. Birds of prey such as eagles, hawks and vultures are its pride.

Fairs and Festivals

The 10 day Ai Giannis Fair takes place on 29th August to honour the patron saint ?Agios Ioannis Prodromos?. The Fair, both a religious and a trade one, has been a major event in the area ever since the village was founded (around 1922 AD).

During the fair folk dance performances are held by the Local Dance Club.

In July, the Youth Festival (organized for the last 12 years by the local Youth Club) fills our summer nights with pop & rock music.
